Hayward is co-founder of University Bridge, a two-year pathway program for international students, providing academic, cultural and social assistance to help ease the transition to studying in the United States. Prior to creating University Bridge, Hayward was a corporate attorney in New York City with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Weil Gotshal & Manges, focusing on private equity, corporate restructuring and capital markets.

Hayward received his AB in Economics and Public Policy Studies from Duke University, followed by his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and MBA from Columbia Business School. Before joining the EarthShare board, Hayward was a member of the Executive Committee of EarthShare New York and served as the Assistant Secretary to the Board for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

In his free time, Hayward is an avid sports fan, particularly college basketball, enjoying the ACC and specifically his Duke and UVA teams.
